A sample report

What is in your water

This is the page you get after a test visit. The readings are made up and belong to no home. Yours has the same columns, filled in from your own kitchen tap.

What is in your water
What it tells usSample reading
HardnessWhat it tells usScale on glass and fixtures. Decides whether a softener belongs in the plan at all.Sample reading14 grains per gallon
Chlorine or chloramineWhat it tells usThe taste and smell of tap water. Decides which carbon filter fits.Sample reading3.0 mg/L
Total dissolved solidsWhat it tells usHow mineral the water tastes. Helps decide whether reverse osmosis at the kitchen tap is worth it.Sample reading420 mg/L
pHWhat it tells usA background reading for the fittings and filter media we would choose.Sample reading7.7
AlkalinityWhat it tells usHow the water behaves in a water heater and on tile. Rarely changes the plan.Sample reading110 mg/L
IronWhat it tells usOrange stains on fixtures and laundry. A higher reading calls for a different first stage.Sample reading0.1 mg/L
Odor at the tapWhat it tells usA sulfur smell points to the source, often a well. We note it and say what we would check.Sample readingNone noted
Sent to a laboratoryWhat it tells usLead, bacteria and nitrates are not measured at the tap. The laboratory's own page is attached, and we do not reword it.Sample readingOnly if you ask

How we take the readings

One tap, before any filter

Readings only mean something if they are taken the same way every time.

We run the cold water for a couple of minutes, fill the sample cup and measure with a field kit. The kit and the time go on the report, so a second visit can be compared with the first.

What the report records

  • Cold water at the kitchen tap, before any treatment

  • The same tap on every visit

  • Kit and time written on the report

After the test

What happens with your report

The page is yours from the moment it is written.

  1. 01

Step 1: It reaches you the same day

By email or text, as one page. You do not have to wait for a proposal to see what we measured.

  2. 02

Step 2: We go through it with you

At the visit or by phone, line by line. Anything you do not follow, we explain until you do.

  3. 03

Step 3: Options come in writing

Only for readings that matter. Each option says what the system changes, what it leaves alone and what it costs.

  4. 04

Step 4: You decide, or you keep the page

You can order, wait, or take the report to another firm. There is no pressure to decide at the table.

A field test has limits

What the report is not

It is not a health screening, and it does not say whether your water meets a standard. A field test at the tap is a way to choose equipment.

For lead, bacteria, nitrates or anything else that needs a laboratory, we bring the sample bottles, send them where you choose, and hand you the result. We do not interpret it for you.

Your utility publishes a yearly water quality report, and it is public. We are glad to read it with you next to ours.

Have your own water read

Book a test visit and we will call you the next working day to set a time. Someone needs to be home.
